Leather furniture can last decades, but only with the right care in between uses. A few simple habits at home go a long way toward keeping it looking good and avoiding repairs down the line.
Dust and Wipe It Regularly
Dust and everyday grime work into the surface over time and wear down the finish. A quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth once a week keeps buildup from settling in.
Keep It Out of Direct Sunlight
Prolonged sun exposure fades color and dries out leather faster than normal use does. If a piece sits near a window, rotating it occasionally or using a curtain during peak sun hours helps.
Condition It a Few Times a Year
Leather needs moisture to stay flexible. A proper leather conditioner applied every few months prevents the cracking and stiffness that eventually leads to tears.
Deal With Spills Right Away
The longer a spill sits, the more likely it is to stain or soak into the material. Blotting — not rubbing — with a clean, dry cloth as soon as possible makes a real difference.
Don’t Wait on Small Damage
A small scratch or loose seam is a quick fix. Left alone, it usually gets worse and turns into a bigger repair. Catching issues early keeps both the furniture and the repair cost smaller.
