What you do in the first few minutes after a spill often decides whether it turns into a permanent mark or disappears completely. Here’s the right way to handle it.
Blot, Don’t Rub
Use a clean, dry cloth and press down gently to absorb the liquid. Rubbing spreads the spill further into the material and can push it deeper into the surface.
Skip Household Cleaners
Soap, alcohol, and general-purpose cleaners can strip the finish or change the color of leather and vinyl. Plain water on a soft cloth is the safest first step for most spills.
Let It Air Dry
Avoid a hairdryer or direct heat, which can dry the material unevenly and cause cracking. Let the area dry naturally, away from direct sun.
Watch for a Lingering Mark
If a faint stain or discoloration is still visible after it dries, that’s usually a sign it needs a proper cleaning or color correction rather than more scrubbing at home.
