Claws and Scratching
Cats especially will treat the arm of a leather sofa like a scratching post. Trimming nails regularly and providing a scratching post nearby reduces the temptation.
Chewing and Teeth Marks
Puppies and dogs in general may chew on cushion corners or edges, especially while teething. Keeping chew toys accessible and furniture covered during unsupervised time helps prevent this.
Body Oils and Dirt
Pets resting in the same spot repeatedly can build up oils and dirt faster than normal use would. Regular wiping down of favorite pet spots keeps this from setting in.
